Message from the President With
the Trust’s AGM coming at the end of March, I still have some matters
unresolved. While the M2 noise issue will take some time to address, I
hope to have a definitive answer on the final design of the lifts and
retention of the ramp at Beecroft Station by the AGM. I have discussed
the matter with our local State Member Treasurer Dominic Perrottet who
is confident an amended design will be released very soon. Once the
future of the ramp is announced I expect the actual construction of the
lifts won’t be far away. It’s been almost three years now since the
initial announcement.
The other matter I have been chasing has been the regeneration of the
bushland along the former haulage road at the back of Cheltenham Oval. I
anticipate Hornsby Council will take control of the project and manage
the regeneration in a professional manner when the current Metro
contract expires around June.
Finally you
will see two articles below that relate to plastic waste. Man created
this problem and man has the ability to address it. Hornsby Council is showing initiative with their recently approved Waste Matters Strategy.
Clean Up Australia provided volunteer crews this year with some green
colour bags made from corn starch which is biodegradable as a trial. The
English National Trust magazine comes from England in a clear bag made
from potato starch. So there are solutions if there is a will.
Beecroft Cheltenham Civic Trust AGM 2020 – Tuesday 31st March 2020 The Beecroft Bowling Club has been booked for Tuesday night 31st
March 2020 for the Trust’s AGM. Please note the date in your
diary/calendar. The meeting will commence at 7.30pm. We have
arranged for the Hornsby Council’s head planner to provide both Hornsby
and Parramatta LGA residents an update on the State Government’s
planning requirements. Also expect an announcement on the Beecroft
Station ramp.
Beecroft Probus Lifestyle Forum:
10th March from 4.30 pm at the Beecroft Bowling Club Beecroft
Probus has a double-header for its next Lifestyle Forum: “Avoiding
seven deadly planning mistakes” – every estate plan has unique features,
but the same and avoidable problems and mistakes occur; and “Investing
for Income” – with interest rates at their lowest levels ever, something
has to give: less income or more risk.
Two excellent speakers, two important topics. Admission $15.00 per head

The Corona Virus. Malcolm McDonald of Beecroft Probus shared this website link with his fellow members. To quote Malcolm,
“The dashboard, built by a team at the Johns Hopkins Centre for Systems
Science and Engineering and regularly updated with data from the WHO,
CDC, and other sources, illustrates how the virus is spreading in China
and beyond”
The website appears to be the statistical source for news agencies reporting, by country and city, the spread of the virus. CLICK HERE
The Trust has also received the following information from one of our
readers which may provide a better understanding of the virus and how to
minimise its impact. The Trust strongly recommends that you consult
your doctor of course. 1. If you have a runny nose and sputum, you have a common cold
2. Corona virus pneumonia is a dry cough with no runny nose.
3. This new virus is not heat-resistant and will be killed by a temperature of just 26/27 degrees. It hates the Sun.
4. If someone sneezes with it, it takes about 10 feet before it drops to the ground and is no longer airborne.
5. If it drops on a metal surface it will live for at least 12 hours -
so if you come into contact with any metal surface - wash your hands as
soon as you can with a bacterial soap.
6. On fabric it can survive for 6-12 hours. Normal laundry detergent will kill it.
7. Drinking warm water is effective for all viruses. Try not to drink liquids with ice.
8. Wash your hands frequently as the virus can only live on your hands
for 5-10 minutes, but - a lot can happen during that time - you can rub
your eyes, pick your nose unwittingly and so on.
9. You should also gargle as a prevention. A simple solution of salt in warm water will suffice.
10. Can't emphasise enough - drink plenty of water! THE SYMPTOMS
1. It will first infect the throat, so you'll have a sore throat lasting 3/4 days
2. The virus then blends into a nasal fluid that enters the trachea and
then the lungs, causing pneumonia. This takes about 5/6 days further.
3. With the pneumonia comes high fever and difficulty in breathing.
4. The nasal congestion is not like the normal kind. You feel like
you're drowning. It's imperative you then seek immediate attention.
Clean Up Australia Day last Sunday March 1 The
Trust registered the Beecroft Village Green again this year.
Twelve bags of rubbish were collected around Beecroft. The Trust
will register again next year.

Local Strategic Planning Statement and Waste Matters at Hornsby Council At
Hornsby Council’s February 12 meeting both the Local Strategic Planning
Statement and Waste Matters Strategy were approved. While the
Waste Matters Strategy sailed through unchanged, the LSPS recommendation
